Savoury Cheese Scrolls

Serves 4


  • 2 cups self raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Australian butter
  • 3/4 cup Australian milk
  • 2 slices ham, cut into strips
  • 1 cup Australian matured cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

  1. Sift flour, mustard and salt into a bowl. Rub in butter. Add milk and using a small spatula, mix into a soft dough. Turn onto a floured board and knead lightly. Roll into an oblong 20cm x 35cm and sprinkle with ham, half the cheese and parsley. Roll up, beginning with a short edge and cut into 8 slices. Arrange flat in a well buttered 20cm round tin and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake at 225C for 20 minutes or until cooked. Cut around edge of tin with a knife and turn scrolls out. Serve hot or cold with butter followed buy a piece of fresh fruit.
  2. N.B. Any remaining scrolls can be wrapped in foil and frozen. When required, place frozen scrolls, still wrapped in foil, in oven and bake at 180C for 30 minutes or until heated through.
