Blackberry Oatmeal Bread

1 loaf


  • 2 cups self raising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 60g butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 425g can blackberries, well drained
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • butter, extra, for serving

  1. Sift flour and nutmeg together, stir in oats. Cream butter and sugar together, add eggs and blackberries. Make a well in flour and pour in egg mixture, stir until dry ingredients are well blended. Stir in walnuts. Spoon mixture into a 22cm x 15cm buttered loaf tin. Bake in a moderate oven (180oC) for 1 hour or until skewer inserted in centre of cake comes out clean. Cool. Wrap in foil and keep overnight. Serve sliced, spread with butter. Yields 24 slices.
