1. What is the LEGENDAIRY Capital program about?

The search for Australia’s LEGENDAIRY Capital 2015 is all about recognising, promoting and supporting passionate communities where dairy has contributed to its social wellbeing. The LEGENDAIRY Capital program seeks to publically highlight positive stories of regional communities and support community initiatives in those towns.

2. Where are Australia's eight dairy regions?

Australia’s eight dairy regions are outlined in the below map and include Gippsland, south west Victoria, the Murray region, Tasmania, Subtropical, New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia.

3. How many times can I nominate a town?

Dairy Australia will accept one nomination per individual, and each individual may nominate one town only.

4. How many times can a town be nominated?

There is no limit to the number of nominations per town, however an individual can only nominate a town once.

5. Am I able to nominate more than one town?

Only one town can be nominated per person.

6. What criteria apply to Legendairy Capital 2015 nominations?

Nominations submitted for entry into the Program should address the following criteria:

a. Social capital: the nomination must describe how the town fosters positive community spirit and community connectedness

b. Innovation and resilience:
the nomination must describe how the town demonstrates innovation, resilience and adaptability when overcoming challenges or embracing opportunities

c. The Project Idea:
the nomination must describe how the community would benefit from a nominated community-driven project, eligible for a community grant from the Program

7. How many Community Grants will be awarded?

A maximum of eight initiatives will be awarded the Community Grants. One nominated community in each dairy region will be awarded a regional grant, and one nominated community nationally will receive an additional grant recognising it as Australia’s LEGENDAIRY Capital 2015.

8. How do the Legendairy Capital Grants work?

A community organisation named in each successful nomination in each of the eight successful communities at the regional level will receive a $2,500 grant to support a worthy community initiative. Australia's LEGENDAIRY Capital 2015 will receive an additional $7,500 for its nominated project, making its total grant money $10,000. Grants are funded by Dairy Australia, and administered by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) in collaboration with community organisations.

9. Who decides the successful nominations?

Regional selection will be judged by one representative from a state dairy organisation based in the respective states of:

  • SA

  • VIC

  • QLD

  • TAS

  • WA

  • NSW

The national LEGENDAIRY Capital selection committee will consist of one representative from:

  • Dairy Australia

  • The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal
  • Australian Dairy Farmers

10. When do nominations for the program open and close?

Nominations open at 9.00 am, 27 April and close 5.00 pm, 12 June 2015. Nominations submitted after this time will not be eligible for entry.

11. How will I know if my nomination is successful?

Dairy Australia will notify nominators of successful towns via the contact details supplied on the nomination form.

12. Will details of my nomination be made public?

A list of nominations will be published on the LEGENDAIRY website and may also be published in print or electronic media.

13. How do I submit my nomination?

To enter the Program online, visit and submit an entry through the online “Nominate your town” option. All entrants must complete all required registration information (including, without limitation, your name, address and other contact information). All entries must be submitted within the Program Entry Period to be eligible.

To enter the Program by mail, please visit to print out the application form. Once completed, mail to LEGENDAIRY Capital at PO Box 181, South Yarra, VIC 3141, within the Program Entry Period.
